Who We Are
FROM THE BEGINNING...
Calling4gr8ness C.I.C was born out of a realisation that our own challenging experiences in care were far too common, even among those who had only spent a short time in the system. The difficult stories were familiar, but what was missing from the conversation were the stories of hope—of those who defied the odds, and of the supporters, carers, and friends who made a real difference in their lives.
We founded Calling4gr8ness to change that narrative.
We are here to tell those untold stories !
Our Aim
We seek to use the power of film to showcase the stories of those across the spectrum of 'care experienced' to encourage further conversation; as well as offering events to inform, inspire and encourage.
From Summer 2023, we will start work with a core group of care leavers - offering hands on experience of film production and skills training; combined with a strong backing of personal support, narrative workshops, industry networking and practical life skills to furnish them with the tools to help them thrive.
This initiative hopes to encourage greater understanding of the experience of care and the individuals within that whilst showcasing best practice in relation to the treatment of those who have been previously been 'looked after children'
In doing so, we hope to support change in both the processes of the current system and better outcomes for those who have had bad experiences. Collaboration and co-design are cornerstones of our way of working and we are committed to enacting the change we want to see.
Our VISION
Though 'home' may be an uncertainty for some, we hope to create one through a supportive community - brought together by shared experienced but kept together by forward-looking shared purpose and creative expression.
At the same time, we hope to bring to public consciousness the rich diversity of backgrounds, personalities, abilities and outcomes of the group as a whole. After all, experience of care bridges ethnicity, gender, disability and sexual orientation and the effects of adverse childhood conditions - present in many care experienced individuals - impacts every section of society though still remains frequently misunderstood and under-recognised.
We are a resilient bunch and are fully capable of achieving incredible things if given the chance and support to do so.
